Describe your product to us?

My product is a cooking knife, for lefthanded people, very sharp and made to look good. Priced similarly at market level.

Why did you choose this product to advertise?

I feel like people who are lefthanded don't have many options in the cooking world, other than to just swap their tools from the right hand to the left hand. And sometimes the tool needed can only be effectively done with a right hand, as it was designed with that in mind.

What was your best outcome and why?

What was your most challenging piece of work to complete?

Who is your target audience and how did you design your work to advertise to that age range/gender?

Analysis and planning a website

Santoku Knives – santokuknives

"The Santoku Knives" are for high quality/grade Japanese styled cooking knives.
The website has a very pleasing style and aesthetic in how it presents itself, using white and red as its main colours that represent and are from the Japan flag. The font used on the listing of the knives are Classic Sans Rounded Font. For its main knife featured on the front page, "AIKO BLUE", uses Limerick Cd Serial.

It features a variety of knives they make and sell these high quality knives, as seen above. Showcasing its vast collection of knives that suits different styles and types of knives people would want.

The logo is a very basic text, and 3 knives on a 45 degree rotated red square. Portrays the brand really well and effectively as on what it is selling with its logo.

What could be in a website for your product?

Link to what my website would feature in a folder:

Here I first drew a quick sketch of what I would want in a website, main knife featured, description, shop button on the top for more knife options, about us for information on what the company is, and contact us button for any problems the customer might discover.

Making the website

I want the front page to be similar to the image above, showcasing my popular and main best selling knives for the customer to buy and use for their own cooking purposes. The text at the top could be changed and done better than what I chose as placeholder as of now.

The website for selling knives for left-handed people was created using the website builder platform Wix. The design process began by selecting a template that was suitable for an e-commerce website. The template was then customized to match the brand's aesthetic, with the color scheme being carefully chosen to create a pleasing and visually appealing look. The layout was designed to be user-friendly and efficient, with easy navigation and a clear call-to-action.

The home page of the website features a full-width banner that showcases the main products, as well as a selection of featured products and categories. The website uses a grid layout to present the products in a clear and organized way, making it easy for visitors to find what they're looking for. The product pages themselves are currently placeholder, as when I actually make the actual knives, I will use that instead of the filler images I have gotten from Bing.

I made a "Contact Us" section at the bottom of home page, as a way for customers to call and send emails if they have any enquiries about the products or anything else they might need.

Overall, the website was designed with the user experience in mind. The colors and layout were chosen to create a visually pleasing and easy-to-use website that makes it easy for customers to find the knives they're looking for. The website's efficient design and optimization for search engines also help to increase its visibility and attract potential customers.

Evaluation of website.

The website I have made to accompany my Product, meets the target audience I have set out for. A cooking knife for left handed. Through the use of effective colour, bold calm font choices, a clear brand identity and a friendly user interface. I have made, in my eyes, an acceptable website used for purchasing of said knives.

The website functions like any other e-commerce websites which sell physical products used for consumption. Buttons with text instead of icons as some may not understand what the buttons do, and I didn't want to add both text and icons as that wouldn't fit the simplistic design and intuitiveness of what I tried to go for. Readability was something I loosely was going for, as I also wanted it look "modern" and "simple" without sacrificing the "aesthetics" of the website.

The catalogue browsing feature was something I wanted to scrap as the site builder, Wix. Wasn't working, but I found a work around somehow, and I made it work really effectively. In which, its ease of use was further improved than the original iteration I was originally going with. Further more, if I had more time, I would have ended up adding more tabs and options for the user to interact with. And also adding some policy info's and rules for the customer to know if they can get a refund or not.

One other thing I liked, was the About us section of the website.
I included the animated logo I made from when I made it earlier before I started work on website design. It added a bit of roughness and authenticity to the website, making it less corporate and more community originated.

Similar Websites I have taken inspiration from are: Santoku Knives – santokuknives, and Borough Kitchen: Cook Shops & Cooking Schools in London.
Those websites, are similar in function, as you have to make it seamless and non disruptive for the shopper to not have to hassle and waste their time and energy buying the products on your website.
